Only a small part of a terrific design is about the work of a good and talented designer. The design is the final result of a number of different aspects. In the end it all comes down to a carefully and precisely balanced materialization of goals and wishes of the client, trends and shared ideas, artist’s intuition, and other numerous features.

Shrek the Halls hd The methodology of design is always a must-have for every successful Web Design studio. Every studio has a more or less the same base methodology, which then changes, evolves to meet their needs, based on the experience.
Here, at Saturized studio, the design methodology has been developing gradually. Upon completion, we analyze our projects once again, checking for potential oversights, trying to determine what could have been done more efficiently, thus making ourselves more adaptable and, eventually, more productive. We would like to share what we have accomplished so far, through constant and persistent refinement of our methodology. This will certainly be another opportunity for us to learn from.
This is how the story begins:
Step 1: Introduction & Briefing
Getting to know your Client and both his wishes and demands is essential. In a way, you are learning about his personality and business philosophy. A formal e-mail and a project brief is not the right way to achieve amazing results and make a client happy. If you are unable to meet the client in person, the next best thing would be a phone call. You should also try and get to know the company’s policy, their vision, products, plans for the future… These particulars will aid you with structuring the design which fulfills the requirements of the project. At Saturized Studio, a project commences after a client fills in our “Brief Questionnaire”, the composition of which is based on our own 10-years experience. The idea is to gather basic information concerning the project. This is the first step, and only after it is done we are able to try to define requirements, goals, and expected results. The next step would be for our producer – who conducts the introductory interviews – to create the Project Overview. This piece of documentation helps us define the scale of our work, together with resources, goals, deadlines and budget. Upon client’s approval of the Project Overview, a final document of preproduction, called Project Plan, is created.
The Project Plan is really the Bible of a project. It contains every phase of the project in detail, precisely delegated resources, deadlines firmly set, and ultimately defined budget. After this document is signed by both parties, the production of the project can commence.

Step 2: Project Setup
We use ActiveCollab to menage our projects: defining tasks, setting milestones and uploading material. It is of extreme importance that all the communication, documentation and monitoring of the project is centralised. You are saving a whole lot of precious time when everything is in one place, and you need to find either a specification, or a certain document, or other inputs from a client.
Step 3: Data Collection
This is when we ask the client for photos, texts, brand guidelines, brochures…
Step 4: Brainstorming
Informational architecture, flowcharts, userpaths… Then drawings, baskets full of paper, whiteboards, arguments, ideas, agreements and music…
Step 5: Design Production
Just when we think the bureaucracy is behind us, the fun part starts! The Design. We start with wireframes (if it is interface design), or drafts (if it is icon or logo design). All along the way we are constantly returning to pen and paper, whiteboards and marker pens… Adobe Illustrator is also with us the entire time. An American Crime dvdrip
After we adopt a certain wireframe, we can begin with the interface design. This is the when we introduce the King of the Game, the Titan – Adobe Photoshop. All hail the King!
Most of the time, by the time we reach this step, we already have an idea for a color scheme. But if you’re all dried out, you can use the Adobe Kuler.
It is very important for us that every pixel is exactly where it should be, every piece of information is extremely well organized, and that there is a certain amount of consistency throughout the entire website or a web application. That is why we use Grids. Most of the time we use plain calculators to define them, but sometimes we use grid buildrrr.
From there on, basically everything else is done in Photoshop; we use it to complete the interface design. For internal use quick preview we often use Skitch, and ActiveCollab menages everything else.

It’s interesting to know how you guys work with your clients (and the tools you use in your work). But what I’m looking forward to is your inspiration/ideas post… since your digimurai site was really impressive, maybe you can describe how you came up with that idea in your next post? I’m thinking you went to a museum and saw an old samurai costume. (That would explain the unique-ness of it, since no one goes to museums nowadays =P)
